Johnson/Evinrude Marine engines - I need a new lower unit.

I have a 93 Johnson 250 outboard. It needs a new lower unit. Will a 200 Evinrude lower unit fit it? Question is what range of years and models will fit my motor?

The 175hp - 225hp Johnson and Evinrude gear cases are interchangeable within their respective years However, the 250hp gear case is different and will not work with smaller models.. it is also the same gear case as the 300hp models.

So let me understand. It is your understanding that only 250 lower unit work with only 250. Or do I understand that 300 will work with 250? The Evinrude will it work with the Johnson. What about OMC?

Yes, the 300 and 250 are the same and it makes no difference whether it's a Evinrude, Johnson, or OMC.. they're all the same except for colors.

So last question, What about the years? Will 1990 model fit 1993? What are the date ranges?

That part is not so cut and dry as there is a wide range of interchangeability but a 1990 should be the same as '93 and should bolt right on.
